Biography

Darlene Loland (she/her) is a passionate educator who prior to completing her PhD taught for more than 20 years in SD38 (Richmond), SD 91 (Nechako Lakes), and SD22 (Vernon). Darlene has experience facilitating grant-funded professional inquiry with practicing teachers, delivering professional development workshops on a variety of topics, spearheading school garden/outdoor classroom building projects, and working on District teams (Aboriginal Ed., writing, and math) to support educators.

Identifying a need to address mental health and wellbeing in education systems, Darlene returned to higher education to complete her PhD which concentrated on teacher/student mental health, organizational wellbeing, and the connection between nature and human health. Her dissertation can be found on the UBC Library Website.

In her current role as an OSE Field Advisor, she enjoys working with teacher candidates and teacher interns on their journey to become confident qualified educators. Darlene is very grateful to be living in the beautiful Okanagan on the unceded traditional territory of the Syilx People and when not working can be found in nature mountain biking, trail running, backpacking, skiing, and gardening
